Who We Are

REACH Academy Charter School is a publicly funded school open to all students in the Western New York area. RACS is currently accepting applications for students entering grades K-6, and will add one grade level each school year until the school is serving students in grades K-8.

Open Enrollment

Open enrollment is designed to give all interested parents equal opportunity for their child to attend REACH Academy Charter School. The Open Enrollment period will begin February 1st and conclude at 3 pm on the first Friday in April. As long as the application is submitted by the end of Open Enrollment, the application will be included in the Enrollment Lottery. If the number of submitted applications exceeds the number of open seats, a random selection lottery will be held to determine applicant acceptance. If the number of applications does not exceed the number of open seats, all applicants will be accepted for their respective grade.

A lottery will be held for any grade for which the number of applications exceeds the number of openings. The lottery will be open to the public, and parents are encouraged, though not required, to attend. The date, time, and place of the lottery will be communicated in writing to all applicants.

Names will be randomly selected, with preference given to students returning each subsequent year, to siblings of RACS students and to students residing in the City of Buffalo. The lottery will continue until all names are drawn.

REACH Academy Charter School will offer enrollment based upon the order of the names drawn until all openings are filled. Remaining names will make up the Official Wait List, and students on the Wait List will be offered enrollment, as openings occur. If an applicant has not been selected for admission, he or she must reapply for the following school year.  Parents will be notified in writing of their child’s position on the waiting list so that they may monitor the status of their child’s application. We will provide as much information as possible on the likelihood of your child receiving a seat. Many children are accepted off the wait list each year. We update the wait list regularly and will notify you if an opening occurs.

Do not become discouraged if your child is put on a wait list. Openings can and do become available. We will offer enrollment for any openings that occur until May 1st of each school year.

Applications will continue to be accepted after the Lottery; with names being placed at the end of the Wait List in the order applications are submitted.

General Policies

  • All applicants will be selected through the lottery process.
  • Students maintaining continuous enrollment at REACH Academy Charter School need not reapply at the end of the school year. Instead                    they will be asked to fill out an Intent to Return form.
  • Families with siblings will be given “ preference” if there is an opening in the grade requested. There is no guarantee that the school will                      have space for a sibling.
  • Students who are residents of the City of Buffalo will also receive preference.

A student who has elected to withdraw from REACH Academy Charter School and wishes to return REACH Academy Charter School must reapply as a new student.

Non-Discrimination Statement:  A charter school shall not discriminate against or limit the admission of any student on any unlawful basis, including on the basis of ethnicity, national origin, gender, disability, intellectual ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, athletic ability, race, creed, national origin, religion or ancestry. A school may not require any action by a student or family (such as an admissions test, interview, essay, attendance at an information session, etc.) in order for an applicant to either receive or submit an application for admission to that school.
